The Great Reorganization.

By: Anita.

Assalamualaikum.

I've been wanting to reorganize (and dust) my CD's for quite a long time but only now that I've found the right occasion to do so. My current choice of reorganization is to have them grouped by how I interpret their music. As I only have a 3-storey CD rack, I'm dividing them into 3 large groups (d'uh):

The lowest shelf is for the easy-listenings. Starting from noneother than King of Pop himself: Michael Jackson, to be followed by early 90's chart toppers such as Paula Abdul or Rick Astley, who are then followed by boyband pioneers Take That, Backstreet Boys, *Nsync to their lovely sidekick Britney, to the more current hitmakers Sugababes. Next in line are American modern rock bands the 'Rejects/Phantom Planets, to the more experienced Foo Fighters, to the rather heavier and dreamy-tuned Incubus and Jimmy Eat World. To add a taste of the Britpop, I've put the likes of Snow Patrol next to Keane next to Suede to be ended with the discoesque Charlatans and the legendary New Order.

The upper shelf is for the heavier stuff yet quite easy-listening for some ears. Starting from the incomprehensible yet musically challenging Pavement/Reggie & the Full Effect to be followed by the nicely produced Franz Ferdinand/Strokes/White Stripes. Punk bands Ash and the great Manic Street Preachers come next, followed by the more sweet-tuned Weezer to OK Go, with The Adams/Spinto somewhere in between (tee-hee), to be ended with Ryan Adams. Rock n roll.

It's either because Ryan Adams' music is quite ranging or because I ran out of space in the second shelf that I put Ryan Adams' Cold Roses/Love is Hell to start the highest shelf. The minorstream shelf. This is where I put Travis next to the oh so lovely Cardigans and the likes (including White Shoes =P), to be followed with folk bands The Thrills/Wilco/The Shins. Special treatment for this shelf, also because I couldn't find them any other group to be put into, I put Jason Mraz to bridge folk/pop, John Mayer to pop/blues, Jamie Cullum to blues/jazz, followed with Nial Djuliarso, and world music Bossanova and Perez Prado's Mambo at the end of the line.

My, this is relaxing :)

Wassalamualaikum.
